Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between suspension upgrades and hydraulic levelling?
Suspension components support the vehicle while driving and influence its ride height and behaviour. Lowering springs are chosen to reduce ride height on compatible vehicles.
Hydraulic levelling systems are used to level a campervan or motorhome when parked. Choose the upgrade around the problem you want to solve: driving setup, vehicle stance or campsite levelling.
How do I check which suspension or levelling system fits my vehicle?
Compatibility depends on the individual product and your vehicle specification. Check the make, model, model year, chassis, drivetrain and permitted axle weights where required.
Send us your registration number and details of any existing suspension modifications or conversion work. For eligible products, get your fit confirmed by Play Dirty before ordering to qualify for our 30-day fit guarantee.
Should I choose 35mm or 55mm lowering springs for my VW Transporter?
Compare the intended lowering amount with how you use your van. Consider ground clearance, campsite access, speed bumps, wheel and tyre clearance, and the weight of your campervan conversion.
Check the spring kit’s exact vehicle and axle-load requirements before choosing. The finished ride height depends on the starting suspension specification and vehicle load, so do not assume every Transporter will achieve an identical result.
Can lowering springs be fitted to a converted campervan?
They may be suitable when the kit is approved for the vehicle specification and operating load. A converted van can carry substantial permanent weight from furniture, batteries, water systems and other equipment.
Provide your vehicle’s weight specification and relevant axle weights when requesting advice. Your installer should assess the existing dampers, suspension condition and clearance before fitting the kit.
Will lowering my campervan affect wheel clearance and ground clearance?
Lowering reduces available ground clearance and can change the space between tyres and bodywork. Check the complete wheel, tyre and suspension combination, especially if you already have aftermarket wheels.
Allow for steering movement, suspension travel and the vehicle’s loaded condition. Ask your installer about clearance around underbody equipment and whether alignment or other follow-up checks are required.
What should I check before ordering an AL-KO HY4 hydraulic levelling system?
Confirm suitability for your exact campervan or motorhome chassis, vehicle weight and available installation space. Check the required mounting components, electrical connections and the contents of your selected package.
Confirm whether the quoted option includes installation and any vehicle-specific components before ordering. Arrange a fitment assessment if compatibility is unclear.
Can hydraulic levelling compensate for any uneven campsite pitch?
A levelling system has operating limits, including its available travel and the ground conditions needed to support it. It cannot compensate for every slope or unsuitable surface.
Follow the system’s instructions when choosing a pitch, positioning the vehicle and operating the equipment. Ask your installer to demonstrate its controls and limitations at handover.
Do suspension upgrades increase my campervan’s payload?
Do not assume a suspension upgrade increases the vehicle’s permitted total weight or axle limits. Choose equipment around the limits that apply to your vehicle.
Include the weight of the new components in your calculations. For a campervan, check the loaded vehicle with passengers, water, fuel, luggage and camping equipment on board.
Do suspension and hydraulic levelling systems need professional fitting?
These upgrades require appropriate installation skills and equipment. Use a competent installer who can confirm vehicle compatibility and follow the manufacturer’s fitting requirements.
Before booking, confirm what the installation includes, any alignment or calibration requirements, and the inspection or maintenance schedule after fitting.
Is UK shipping free on suspension and levelling products?
Yes. Play Dirty offers free UK shipping on orders over £100. For orders of £100 or less, check the shipping charge shown at checkout.
Check the product page for availability and any lead time. Free shipping does not mean installation is included; check your selected package and confirm fitting arrangements before purchasing.
