Vehicle Snorkels for Campervans, 4x4s & Overland Vehicles

A vehicle snorkel moves the engine’s air intake to a higher position on the outside of the vehicle. This can reduce exposure to dust, debris and water spray compared with the original intake position.

It is useful for campervans and 4x4s travelling on dusty tracks and unsealed roads. It remains part of the air intake system, so the engine still needs its air filter.

These are vehicle-specific kits. The body shape, mounting points and connection to the engine’s air intake must match your vehicle.

The Bravo SVCR kit is listed for the 2017-onwards VW Crafter and MAN TGE. It fits on the vehicle’s right-hand side and uses an 89mm, or 3.5-inch, intake head. Bravo lists it as compatible with both LED and halogen headlights.

The earlier Crafter uses a separate kit shared with the Mercedes Sprinter W906. Send us your model year and engine details before ordering if you are unsure which generation you have.

We list separate Bravo kits for the Sprinter W906 and the 2018-onwards W907/W910 generation. The W907/W910 SMSV kit mounts on the vehicle’s left-hand side and has an 89mm, or 3.5-inch, intake head.

Bravo provides different fitting instructions for engine and chassis variants. Give us your model year, engine and drivetrain details so we can confirm the appropriate kit before you order.

The Crafter/MAN TGE and Sprinter kits list the snorkel body, intake head, fitting template and installation accessories.

The template helps position the body-panel openings. Use the installation guide for the exact kit to identify the required fixings, connecting components, tools and sealants before starting work.

Yes. Snorkel installation generally requires body-panel openings, mounting holes and a connection to the factory air intake. It is a permanent modification.

Professional fitting is recommended if you are not experienced in vehicle bodywork and intake installation. Accurate positioning, corrosion protection around cut edges and correctly sealed connections all matter.

Confirm the kit fits your vehicle before cutting or drilling, and follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

No. Raising the air intake does not waterproof the vehicle or automatically increase its approved wading depth. Electrical components, breathers and other systems can remain vulnerable to water.

Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s wading limits. A snorkel also depends on correct installation and sealing throughout the intake system; its height alone is not a safe crossing-depth guide.

Do not buy a snorkel expecting a guaranteed increase in horsepower or miles per gallon. Its main purpose is to relocate the air intake for the conditions you drive in.

For an overland campervan, the practical benefit is intake positioning on dusty routes rather than a promised performance gain.

Check clearance around the wing, A-pillar and intake head before installation. Ditch lights, their brackets and roof-rack accessories may occupy the same area.

Bravo manufactures its snorkel bodies from ExxonMobil LL 8446.21 linear low-density polyethylene, known as LLDPE. The Crafter/MAN TGE installation guide specifies a UV-stabilised resin.

This is a moulded plastic intake body. Its material warranty is separate from a powder-coated metal product’s finish warranty.

Bravo snorkels come with Bravo’s five-year manufacturer warranty, subject to its terms and exclusions. They are third-party products, so this is separate from Play Dirty’s own-brand warranty.
